The Problem Solver

The Problem Solver

A program for clients who are overwhelmed with problems or desire to resolve a single significant problem.

Goals

  1. To identify the problem.

  2. To solve the problem.

Theory

Sometimes in life we find ourselves struggling with a problem that will not go away. Such as personality conflicts in the workplace, personal and professional life conflicts, apathy or resentment to change, negative personal habits, etc. If these problems are not addressed they can undermine our mental health. These are the times when we need support. These are the times when we measure our resilience. Resilience is perhaps the greatest factor in determining our ability to adapt well in the face of adversity. We measure our resilience upon seven factors: family, social network, belief system, self-esteem, routines and interests, occupation, and physical health. Not all factors are needed at each moment to be resilient but each factor serves as a node in the network of resilience. Each node is a factor in our life that will give us strength. To solve a problem we must draw upon our strengths and apply them to the problem as needed.

method

By developing critical thinking and establishing cognitive reinforcement techniques we can identify and eliminate or mitigate the problem. This is a process of establishing focused thinking and practicing precision to achieve the goals. Clarity comes from critical thinking and talk-therapy. We must instill the necessary information and create an environment for the best reflective thought to accurately identify the problem. This can be done through a short series of face-to-face sessions and one-step assignments. Precision comes from applying tactics. These are measurable actions that rely on strength-based behaviours. This is done by creating a plan utilizing achievable actions defined by your strengths. After the introductory sessions each subsequent session will be about reviewing what has been achieved and what is the next action. Systemic achievement is the key to success.
